Yes, they can dry out your eyes but for most people, that can be helped with eye drops. However, for those with chronic dry eyes, contact lenses can be very uncomfortable. For those people, they never stop feeling like they have something in their eyes and eye drops don't help them much. I have dry eyes myself and I can only wear contact lenses for a few hours at a time before they become so uncomfortable that I have to take them off.

As for responsibilities, you have to make sure you keep them clean. Contact lenses can trap dirt and cause infections. They also can be lost fairly easily and take practice to insert. If you can handle those, then contact lenses are for you. I wish I could wear mine all the time like I used to and how so many other people can.

As for cost, they definitely are much cheaper than they used to be. I paid about $100 for my latest set but that was partially covered by insurance. I can recall a time when getting contact lenses could cost several hundred dollars and you only got one pair of lenses. If you lost or damaged one of them, you could buy insurance to get a replacement lens but that was about $30 more.

As a contact lenses user for some 20 years, I have found my wearing them are a problem so far. I have heard others who have dry eyes not been able to wear them comfortably; thereby they have to revert to wearing glasses again. I guess it all depend on individuals. Well, you can try a pair and if you find them to be comfortable, then continue on. Contact lenses are that expensive. You have to buy the disinfectant for the lenses when you take them off at night. Talk to your optician.
