I have been told from a very early age that I have "good veins". My veins are normally visible up the entire length of my arm, from hands to shoulder, and into my shoulders, chest, and neck. My veins on my feet, calves, legs, and abdomen are the same way. As I've worked out over the last couple years I have noticed that more and more veins keep appearing. I slowly watch them progress from little blue lines to little pipes sticking up out of my skin. I don't think it's gross and I know it's healthy, but will this ever come to a critical point when it will finally stop? Everyone in my family has good veins, but I probably have the most visible ones of all my relatives, aside from my uncle who works out as well.

I suppose my biggest concern is that working out (running, biking, weight training, swimming, and playing hockey) may accelerate this process unnaturally. I've been unable to find many resources online about this subject, so I appreciate greatly any input I may receive.

Same thing with me, ive heard that it means that you have a good cardiovascular system. I just started getting one on my shoulder, it just means that your veins are getting bigger because your working out and you need more nutrients to get to your body so your veins get bigger to compensate.  Dont worry!

working out does often make veins stand out more - however they are not going to completely take over your body or anything.  just like working out builds muscles - they will eventually level out.

other things have to do with your veins as well.  part of it may be genetic, part of it from working out, they will also, pop out more if you are warm.

don't worry about it.  think of yourself as lucky, i work in a hospital and draw blood from people whose veins are shot and it's a pain for them and me!
